Location
Located 575 miles southeast of Miami, Florida, 30 miles south of the Bahamas and 90 miles north of the Dominican Republic, the Turks & Caicos Islands, a small archipelago are made up of over 40 islands and cays of which eight are inhabited. On the north side, facing the Atlantic Ocean, a long barrier reef protects the islands and offers one of the largest coral systems in the world.
Climate
The Turks & Caicos Islands (TCI) enjoys year-round sunshine, low humidity as well as a prevailing easterly breeze provided by the Atlantic trade winds which keeps temperatures from becoming excessively hot. The most popular time to visit TCI is over the winter months when the sun continues to shine but the nights are cooler. Temperatures in summer (April to September) average 87°F (31°C) and in winter (October to March) 77° F (25°C). Rainfall averages 26 inches per annum in the Turks and 40 inches in the Caicos Islands. Providenciales is especially temperate and comfortably dry year-round.
Island of Providenciales
Situated on the west side of the Caicos archipelago, Providenciales has an area of 38 square miles. Providenciales, familiarly known as "Provo" boasts beautiful pristine white sand beaches, turquoise water and amazing conditions for fishing, snorkeling and diving. Beautiful beaches are scattered on all sides of Providenciales, the most spectacular of which is a 12-mile stretch located on Grace Bay which is dotted by hotels, upscale condominiums and vacation homes offers all the modern conveniences one could desire while remaining a superior vacation destination for one who wants an escape from stress and overpopulated cities. Provo has an 18-hole golf course, casinos, shopping, three marinas, a growing number of bars and excellent restaurants.
Industries
The two main industries are tourism and offshore banking. TCI is home to the only conch farms in the world.
Other Points of Interest
The Turks & Caicos Islands were discovered by the tourism industry in the '80s as visitors began to build private homes. Turks & Caicos Islands are a British territory, the Turks & Caicos Governor is appointed by the Queen, who is responsible for law and order on the islands. The seat of the locally elected government is in Grand Turk, the capital of the Turks & Caicos Islands.

Five hours behind Greenwich Mean Time, follows U.S. in both Eastern Standard Time & Eastern Daylight-Saving Time.
Population
Current total population is over 30,500, making it the largest island in population and the third largest in area.

2007 all US Citizens traveling by air to
the Turks & Caicos Islands will be
required by the US Government to have a
valid US passport. Cruise ship
passengers have until June 1, 2009 to
meet the requirement.
